Okpara Community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State has commended members of the ‘vigilante group in the area for volunteering to tackle insecurity in the area, presents four motorcycles to the group.
This commendation was given by Mr. Augustine Akatugba, President, Okpara Patriotic Union (OPU) in Okpara Community during the presentation of four motor-cycles to members of the vigilante group in the area, he said that the gesture was geared towards equipping the group in order to aid them in their fight against crime and criminality in the communities.
Mr. Akatugba added, “In a month’s time, my administration would be a year old. Security was in a shabby state when we assumed office and the vigilante was not performing. But, so far, we have achieved relative peace in Okpara Community.
The issue of kidnapping has reduced to the barest minimum, while we are still battling with cultism; though we have not allowed it overwhelm us.”
Mr. Akatugba disclosed that funds were raised to purchase the motorbikes from monies generated from companies in the area, he called on the vigilante members to be prepared to up their game as Okpara community is preparing for its cultural festival slated for Sunday, March 18 to Wednesday, March 21, 2018 as visitors in their large numbers are expected to participate in the programme.
Okpara Inland received two bikes, Okpara Waterside and Okurekpo got one each.
The presentation which took place at Opkara community town halls was witnessed by community leaders, the Divisional Police Officer, Isiokolo Division, SP George Osakwe and members of the vigilante.
